Project Run and Play: Movie Inspired

Every summer, the Strawberry Festival comes around and people sell things.  One of the things that interests me are the fuzzy animal hats, but they're just too expensive.  So, when I saw a pattern for those hats in a book at Pacific Fabrics, I was excited to make one.  I bought super soft fuzzy minky fabric from the remnant table.  My mom helped me make the pattern and I cut the fabric with my new left handed scissors!  At this point my mom said since I was making this hat anyway, it reminded her of a Bar-ba-loot from The Lorax.  I linked it to Project Run and Play this week.

I'm so excited to wear it to school.  My favorite parts are the pockets and how I can wrap it around my neck like a scarf.

Project Run and Play: Winter Wonderland

When I read about the first Project Run and Play challenge and it was Winter Wonderland, the first thing that came to my mind was pajamas. Luckily I found this grey flannel snowflake fabric that I used to make the pants.

I made a pattern from some other pajama pants.  I was really happy to make such a good pair of pants with just a little help for my first time. Then I found a grey T-shirt at a thrift shop and then I cut out one big snowflake and three little snowflakes and hand sewed them on to the grey T-shirt!

Holiday Dress

The skirt was from my fourteen year old sister's Minnie Mouse Halloween costume and the top is  made from the left over scraps.  I chose to do this outfit because one day I was at my neighbor's house playing Calico Critters when I was inspired by one of the Calico Critter's outfits.  The next morning I slid the skirt on to the mannequin and wrapped the fabric around the top part of the mannequin and pinned it in the back.  Then, I got bias tape for the strap and a big green button and sewed the button to one end of the strap with silver thread.  Then I sewed up the sides to make it tighter.  Last of all I tucked it in to the skirt!

My New Workspace

This weekend my mom cleared out our closet that is under the stairs.  Next my dad moved a table into the closet for our sewing machine and my new mannequin next to it.  Now I can design before and after school and still be close to my family downstairs.  If I make a mess we can just close the door.  And on the blank wall I can pin up pictures for inspiration.
